MLC brands council's stance on housing 'disappointing'

Douglas Council's refusal to answer questions about the number of council houses available in the town is 'disappointing'. 

That's the opinion of MLC David Cretney - he'd asked the council to provide information after concerns were raised by the constituents he used to represent in South Douglas.
 
He also wanted to know how many void properties are on the books, how long they've been vacant, and why there's such a 'slow turnover' of properties at the present time. 
 
However the council has refused to provide the information - it says whilst it's working to help those seeking housing it would 'not be usual' to provide details on a 'wider scale'. 
 
Mr Cretney says he will now ask the questions in Tynwald instead but admits it's frustrating especially as the Freedom of Information Act will soon cover local authorities:
